Description: Buttonwood Beach R.V. Resort is a private gated waterfront community located on Maryland’s beautiful Eastern Shore, where the banks of the Elk River meet the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Description: The campground features 20 acres of woodland on top of a mountain. Camping options in 24 sites include 8 cottages, a deluxe tree house, and a Hobbit House, all with wood stoves and mattresses for all-weather camping. There are also 6 primitive three season treehouses with no wood stoves or mattresses. A pavilion is available for small group gatherings. Only the Hobbit House and pavilion have electricity. There is potable drinking water and a central bathhouse with outdoor showers. This is a primitive campground, with no RVs and generators are not permitted. The campground is wooded, with a beautiful view, lots of birds, and peace and quiet.

Recreation: The campground is 3/4 mile from the Appalachian Trail, and 15 minutes from Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia where 3 rafting companies provide tubing, rafting, kayaking and zip-lining. Nearby there are fishing creeks and many wineries. The campground is a mile from Burkittsville, where there is a cider distillery, orchard, and tasting room. Also nearby are Antietam Battlefield and blueberry picking. A community swimming pool is nearby, along with 2 playgrounds.

Amenities: Central in camp is a community bath house with hot and cold running water, flush toilets, and outdoor, hot private showers and a dish washing station. Port-o-johns are strategically located. In winter, there is an indoor hot shower. There is potable drinking water, but the sites are primitive. The Hobbit House and Pavilion are the only sites with electricity, but there is a charging station for devices in the office. There is limited WiFi. The campground is pet-friendly. Credit cards are accepted, and there is a 10% military discount.

Travel Directions: The campground is an hour from Washington, D.C., following 270 North to 340 West, exit Route 67 toward Boonsboro, then go 5 miles up Rt 67, right on Gapland Road (follow signs to Gathland State Park), then left on Townsend Road, before you get to Gathland park, down one half of a mile to Treehouse Camp sign. The campground is also an hour and a half from Baltimore, following 95 to 270 West to 340 West, exit Route 67. Braddock Heights may also be taken off 70 West, left through Middletown, for a scenic drive. [ map ]

Travel Directions: From the Baltimore/Washington, DC areas take I70W to I68W toward Cumberland. Take “Orleans Rd” Exit 68 ramp off of Interstate 68, at top of ramp take a left and follow signs to campground. From the Winchester, VA area take I522N through Berkeley Springs, WV, and cross the Potomac River into Hancock, MD. Merge onto I68W toward Cumberland, MD. Take Exit 68 “Orleans Rd” off of I68. Description: Sandy Cove is a place to get away. The campgrounds are peaceful, family friendly and are a short walk away from the Chesapeake Bay. The park features a total of 100 acres, a total of 82 sites, 8 tent sites, 25 water sites, 25 electric sites, 20 sewer sites, 10 rental cabins, 25 overnight sites, and has pull-thru sites. If you enjoy running or riding bikes, this is a great place for you and your family to be active and safe. The Campgrounds are open May 1st through mid-October and the Log Cabins are open all year long. Our Log Cabins sleep up to 8 and include a double bed, a set of bunk beds, two twin cots and a futon. Also, the Cabins come with a fully equipped kitchen, eating and living area, a full bathroom, air conditioning, and front porch. All linens are included. Charcoal grill and picnic tables are available on site. A handicap-accessible cabin is available.

Recreation: Recreation includes 2 swimming pools that include kid friendly shallow zones, nearby boat slips or ramps, available kayak, paddle boats and canoe rentals during the warm months, tennis, mini-golf, nearby driving range, 3 playgrounds, and nature trails. Some activities are seasonal.
